Perfect spot, home away from home, well equipped ( even the knives were sharp!). Thank-you for making everything easy by providing so much.

Everything we could have wanted!

It well and truly made up for the tough fishing conditions we encountered. What a delight to come home to a slow cooker meal, light the fire and contemplate tomorrow over a bottle of fine pinot. Although the weather, particularly the wind and high river levels made our normal destinations a bit of a challenge we did find a few very pleasant surprises. A number of the smaller feeder creeks which would normally be very low or dry still held some surprisingly large fish. Thank-you again.

Our 4 nights were great. So many people in this town are so lovely. We both trout fished the rivers and caught some nice fish. The best being a 6lb and 4lb and many others in the area. The videos were entertaining and all the little things in this place made us feel so much at home. We loved it. Hope to be back again in the near future.

The end of a fabulous week of good company, good fishing and good food and drink. Great place to stay and we will return next year. Had a couple of guides for 2 days. All of us caught fish, the weather was magnificent (didn't put on a jumper or coat for 7 days). The Pub was fun for a couple of nights. Coffees at Bakery. Very tired every night from full days walking the rivers. Loved NZ, loved Rod and Wheel House. Will return.

Many games to play, good movies to watch. We had a relaxed New Year's Eve playing cards, scrabble and badminton and watching movies. A great way to spend New Year's Eve.

We had a fantastic stay in your very well appointed house. You have everything that one could ask for ( including amazing mattresses). We did the Milford Sound trip ( be advised, give yourself 3.30 hours due to one way tunnels/buses- we almost missed it setting out 3.00 hours prior). Fished the Acton Stream ( fair), the Oreti ( low and tough) and the Mataura (outstanding).

Thank you so much for welcoming us- especially with 2 kids! We loved exploring the rivers, Lumsden shops and eateries and nearby towns. The fact that the house is so wonderful and there are plenty of games, movies and located in a charming town helped make our family vacation quite special.

Thank-you for the great place to stay. The house was lovely. Thank-you too for letting us use all the baby gear! Kylan loved his stay and his new little lamb!

House as comfortable as ever!

It made our trip after long, hot days on the beautiful but difficult rivers ( The rain can really work against you!)

Our family had an exciting time here. We took a boat ride to an Island across from Queenstown. We saw English deer, alpacas, sheep, sheep dogs, and a certain breed of oxen. We had the chance to see a man shear one of the merino sheep. We felt the wool. Thank-you

Wow! In the last seven years that I have visited New Zealand, I've stayed in every type of accommodation from luxury self contained apartments to cheap and nasty caravan parks. Oreti River and Rod and Wheel Houses are by far the best places I have stayed. Both houses were very clean and comfortable, and being a chef, I was impressed at how well equipped the kitchen was. I will definitely be back. Amazing, Amazing, Amazing!!

Three days on the Mataura. First day very strong hatch from 2.30pm. Fished the Oreti in the morning and saw a few fish but very spooky. Second day on Mataura - very windy and cold, no hatch. Day 3 on the upper Mataura, good but short hatch. Epic fishing in the shallows. Great house and making plans for next year!

My wife and I stayed at the Rod and Wheel House in January 2014 for one week. The house is newly renovated with a marvelous ambience. It has four well appointed bedrooms, an open plan kitchen, dining and living room with a pot belly stove which keeps the house wonderfully warm at night. This delivers a relaxing atmosphere, which goes well with a bottle of NZ Pinot Noir - just what we like after a day's fishing! The excellent sound system, large screen TV and free Wi-Fi all add to the comforts of home. This was our third trip back to Lumsden and equal to the best to date. We did some excellent fly fishing in the local rivers over most of the week - it is true trout heaven, with the many creeks and rivers full of magnificent trout. My wife caught a 2 pound and then a 3 pound trout which added to the wonderful memories. We would highly recommend Rod and Wheel House as offering superb value for money. We definitely plan to return back to Rod and Wheel House in the not to distant future.

We had a great time on the Jet-Fish. Broke off a very big bow close to the net but we did land some 3 lb bows and a 3 and 5 pound brown. Mark said it was a slow day for dry fly action so I would definitely give it another go in the future. The float down to l. Manapouri was beautiful. Our trip to the upper Oreti was on a beautiful day and we got our beat. We saw many fish but all they did was look at our bugs and then bugger off-regardless of the bug. We also spooked many fish. None were eating on top and I guess they are very pressured by this time of the year. Yesterday, we went to Cattle Flat and between 11-6 PM, we landed 8 three pounders and a 4 pounder on dry mayfly duns and occasionally, an emerger. Great fun. Today, it is cloudy and showers are predicted so we are enjoying our wonderful accommodations and reading, emailing etc. We may also take advantage of the interesting DVD collection.

Extremely comfortable and well equipped place to stay in a really great location. Fantastic array of fishing available from here and we've had a fabulous time through some days which were not the easiest fishing conditions. We look forward to returning.

Enjoyed our stay tremendously. The rivers were upish but we managed to do some good fishing by way of FishJet on the Waiau River at Te Anau also in some local spots around Lumsden. The good news is our fishing guide believes that the wet summer should lead to the brilliant "Year of the Mouse" situation- end of 2014. Have stayed in both houses now and they are both brilliant.

This is our first NZ Christmas and what a contrast from Canada. Warm summer days instead of -30C miserable ones... Fantastic! We came here to fish and sight-see and we've done both with good fortune and unforgettable memories. Milford Sound, Oreti River and Stu's Fly Shop were some of my favorites. Very difficult fishing but persistence paid off. This has been a wonderful place to stay.

Fantastic place, well appointed and wonderfully finished. Great outside entertaining area- nice to be able to keep dry in the Southland rain!
